This year, I’m inspired by the Parisienne mode of holiday dressing where subtlety is the key to sexy. If your closet is full of quality pieces you’re in love with, holiday dressing should be as effortless as your daily routine. And if you feel assured and confident in a trusted piece—for me, it’s usually something simple and black— you’re free to make more provocative choices in other ways. My goal this year’s gatherings is to employ my simplest pieces, making space for thoughtful, feminine deviations. Exposed lace bralette, a playful shoe, or simple gold fingernail polish are three of my favorite ways to step up a trusted outfit for the holidays. Black, as always, is my go-to for New Year’s soirees. It’s chic, easy, and unassuming, and serves as the perfect tableau for pretty little details.

For me it’s valuable to be underdressed rather than overdressed at parties so I am at my most confident. When I feel like a more chic version of my everyday self, I’m more present; my awareness shifts to others instead of worrying about how I’m dressed. So I’ve chosen three easy, chic outfit options with polished details:

  • Leather culottes with a crop top. These pants are super comfortable and fall at such a flattering spot. I find them to be just the right balance of playful and sophisticated. Culottes are always a great option for dressing up while still feeling comfortable.
  • A romper. Rompers are a perfect when an occasion calls for dressiness but you want something a little more unique than a little black dress. I find sleeveless tops offer an unexpected, subtle sexiness, especially in winter.
  • Dress and statement bag. The little black dress is every chic woman’s best friend. I’ve searched high and low to find a flattering and refined dress, and I’m in love with this oversized Shaina Mote look that exposes just a sliver of collarbone.
