Now Trending // An intro to trend
So excited to introduce you all to a new series on WEL, dedicated to diving a bit deeper into the topic of Trend. I have always loved how trends take shape- how the conversation starts and eventually how it makes its way into what we all wear. So without further ado, I introduce you all to Abby who is a dear friend of mine and all around trend guru at WARM+ COOL. I first met Abby while in the corporate work force, and immediately started insta-stalking her. Her vibe and style was so dreamy, and while a tad different than my own, I know you guys will love what she does as much as I do! She will be guest writing about trends this year and giving us all the scoop on what we need to know, and what we need to buy asap!
When I describe what I do at WARM + COOL, the first question usually is, “How do you predict trends?” While I still haven’t come up with my perfect elevator pitch, what I do know is that trend forecasting requires a ton of passion, a ton of research, and a ton of gut. I also know that the work is more than cataloging what comes down the runway or scouting the coolest shops. At the end of the day, trends are defined by people. Or to put it simply, it’s not the clothes, but the people who wear them. Thus, our research leads to all facets of life – uncovering the people and the projects kicking ass and taking names. From the art world to entertainment to economics to technology to politics, everything converges where fashion trends are born.
Did I mention politics? This season during Fashion Month, it seemed politics was the frame through which every collection was viewed and designers presented a vast array of responses. If one thing was certain, clothes seemed to be smarter this season as all of us seem to be searching for answers – or at the very least, the right questions.
Below in partnership with WEL, we are excited to share our list of the smartest trends to wear right now. Although the runway looks aren’t available until this fall, our curated and shop-able galleries are perfect for stepping into spring with style.
xx Abby, WARM + COOL
Both WEL and WARM + COOL love a good suit and this season’s suiting is more versatile than ever. We had too many faves to count but a little shorts number like this one from Tibi is perfect inspiration to pair with tights now and then go without once spring officially hits.
Take a cue from the pros and wear your suiting as separates. Michael Kors styled a classic suit trouser with a statement sweater while at Victoria Beckham, a fluid skirt perfectly balanced a masculine blazer.
From bishops to bells to peasants, statement sleeves have officially moved to must-have status. While it’s still chilly, layer tops and dresses with a turtleneck as seen at Zimmerman and once temps heat up, take a cue from Rosetta Getty’s elbow puff version.
A high-volume sleeve gets a cool edge when styled with leather as seen at Rosetta Getty. We also love the idea of this top tucked into high- rise black washed denim for polished weekend vibes.
Sequins and shine are hot right now and the trend doesn’t need to scream holiday when done in easy breezy styles and dressed-down cozy layers. We loved the tattered sequins at Zimmerman, equally at home with fall boots or summer slides. If metallic feels like too much bling, high-shine satin is a more subtle option.
We love a good monochrome look and this version from Sies Marjan is pure genius. Strike the perfect casual/ glam balance and pair satin separates (pjs anyone?) with a sweatshirt in a matching shade.
It seemed everyone had something to say at NYFW and particularly moving were messages of love, unity, and female empowerment. Shop the looks we’ve curated below or get creative and DIY something amazing! Now more than ever, it’s time to stand up for what we believe in.
Not everyone wants to wear their sentiments on their sleeves so to speak. If this is you, consider the white bandana (#tiedtogether) or even writing a hidden DIY message – perhaps an injustice you’d like to stomp out on the sole of your shoe? However you say it, what matters is that you feel it.
Channel your passions and wear red! Certainly the new go-to pop color for accessories, red also pairs beautifully with EVERY neutral in your closet. Just think how much richer your cognacs, camels, grays, navys and even basic black will look with a pop of red. Our favorite combination? Bright crimson back to Bordeaux.
